Adaptive Musical Theatre with Supportive Peers

Adaptive Musical Theatre includes all of our friends with Special Needs, including those who are nonverbal and non-ambulatory. Our first 12 week Adaptive Musical Theatre Curriculum will walk you though each AMT Unit step-by-step for each class! Our videos takes you through check-ins, physical warm-ups, discussion questions and analysis of the story, characters and technical aspects of the musical studied that week, musical numbers with easy and fun choreography for students to follow, acting exercises, critiques and exit tickets. It's all there for you in one place!

Our kids are thriving, moving to music and having fun! My students look forward to the music and the positive attitude of everyone in the class. They enjoy stretching and moving to the modified choreography moves.

The Hays HS Adaptive Musical Theater program is a beautiful, inclusive, and highly engaging initiative. I have watched students who do not engage in the classroom come alive in this program. Lory Stewart’s love for theater is showcased through these student’s laughs, self choreographed dances, and partnerships with general education students. I am so thankful for her and this amazing program.

Kimberley Gates
Former Johnson High School Theatre Director

This class is amazing, so much fun and the social, physical, and emotional growth and confidence from the students was evident.

Heather K. Lambert
CTRS, CPRP, Sr. Recreation Services Supervisor, TRAPS North Region Director, Garland Parks and Recreation

In 2004, the seeds of Adaptive Musical Theatre were planted with the creation of Dramapalooza in Garland, Texas. “Dramapalooza was created to bring a new and exciting experience to the Garland Therapeutic Recreation group. The performers are exposed to the full cultural arts experience through this class. Each element of this unique program helps to promote independence, self confidence, and a sense of belonging. Accommodations are made to meet the needs of each performer which include individuals that are non-verbal, individuals that use wheelchairs, and individuals with social anxiety. Every participant is given a chance to shine bright on stage regardless of ability.” Heather K.
